The students learned the concept of "innovation" and explained why innovation is important to the world. then explored the existing Israeli inventions and the need for these inventions.
we read the book "What to do with an idea?" And from there I sent them to work in groups. I asked the students to think about a new invention that would reduce the emission of toxic gases from cars.
Each group received a page, wrote the importance of the invention and painted it.
Finally, the students presented their inventions in the classroom, raised questions about the inventions of other groups, and sent them to investigate at home about air pollution and to think deeply about their device development.
In the second week, a class technician (mechanic) came to explain about the structure of the vehicle, the process of burning the fuel and releasing toxic gases from the vehicle outside.
The students then received their ideas pages from the previous week and the expert moved between the groups and helped them refine the idea into a real instrument.
The students also built an initial model of their plasticine machine.
It was fun and creative :)
I start teaching in 2017. I'm teaching 2nd grade at Haim Hefer Primary School, Petah Tikva, Israel. I'm teaching
Bible at 2nd grade and I'm in charge of the ICT at school.
At school we use PBL as our main tool for learning and students work a lot in small groups to explore and study in a relevant way.
