During the second week we focused on SDGS and sustainability:
In the recent decades, urbanization has increased tremendously. At the same phase there is an increase in waste production. Waste management has been a crucial issue to be considered. Foul smell from these rotten wastes that remain untreated for a long time, due to negligence of authorities and carelessness of public may lead to long term problems. Breeding of insects and mosquitoes can create nuisance around, promoting unclean environment. Also, the breeding of mosquitoes can cause various diseases like malaria, dengue, etc. . Some companies, moreover, to save the money spent in disposal, throw heavy and radioactive metals like Uranium, Radium, Thorium, anyway. These metals are to be disposed in correct and expensive manner which can cause all types of cancers, Non-malignant thyroid nodular disease, Parathyroid adenoma, Posterior subcapsular cataracts, etc.
He took help from the local civic body to get into depth of this problem and how to come up with the solution. Also I visited some of the slums nearby and had a talk with people residing to understand what kind of problem they are facing in day to day life due to this. we have seen dustbins overflowing in the slums and no one taking care of it. . Teachers help to develop the circuit involved in this project.
Infrared sensor is placed at the top of the dustbin. The threshold stature is set as 15cm. Once a person places its hand over the infrared sensor, the lid of the dustbin will open and garbage can be put in the dustbin, taking care of the hygiene of the person. Once, the garbage reaches the threshold level, another infrared sensor will glow a LED and trigger the GSM module which will alert the required authority until the garbage in the dustbin is squashed. To avoid mixing of heavy and radioactive metals with the normal waste, a metal detector is placed on the mouth of the dustbin, so that metals can be segregated in another bin attached to the first bin. Once the dustbin is squashed, people can reuse the dustbin. At regular intervals dustbin will be squashed. Once these smart bins are implemented on a large scale, by replacing our traditional bins present today, waste can be managed efficiently as it avoids unnecessary lumping of wastes on roadside.
The components Hehas used are cheap and easily available. The CD drives, relay switches, LED’s, wires are cheap and readily available, making it inexpensive. It can be powered by both 9V batteries and a 12V power supply, making it energy efficient. It is fully automated. It has been made such to take care of personal hygiene. Making use of GSM module to inform the civic authority makes it more innovative.
The ATL technologies He has used are
Skype session with Global Model School
In the session we discussed about their innovation project and our students also showcase their project that they have made in their innovation Lab(ATAL Tinker lab@KHMS)
webinar with the Portuguese game developer and CEO of ClasSplash Joao Ramalheiro.

I am presently working with Kulachi Hansraj Model School,Delhi, India, as a Sr. Computer Teacher. I teach web designing with HTML, Robotics,Python etc. I also run CyberCongress,tech4us and ATAL tinker club in our school where students tinker their minds with tools and technology and become a resposible digital citizen.I passionate about learn new technologies and tinker on to innovate new inventions.
