Innovation Project

Selected Student Reflections for weeks 1 and 2

Jeremy

Week 1 Questions

  1. What does Innovation mean to you?  Innovation means to make the world a better place by creating new ideas that would better us a society.

  1. How do you see innovation being relevant to you and your future career path? Innovation as a whole should be relevant in your future because creating new ideas or upgrading things you already have to better yourself is very important.

Week 2: SDG 14 Questions

  1. What did you learn about SDG14 Life under water? That storm water washes on to the creeks and that is not healthy for the underwater environment.

  2. What did you learn about making a protoype in a short amount of time? (Innovating) that it's easy to make it as a prototype, but actually creating it in real life would be a challenge

Week 3: Using Technology

  1. What do you like about using little bits?  In what way do little bits help you make your thinking visible? I like that it's a little more realistic, It feels like i'm actually creating something other than just using legos or simple blocks.

  2. Draft a plan for how you will prepare your tutorial.  What steps will you discuss and what are some things you need to consider when teaching people something? In going to find out exactly what each little bit does before i explain it. Memorize exactly how to build it so i can start from the beginning and not just start the video with a final product.

Week 1 Questions

  1. What does Innovation mean to you? Innovation is the ability to come up with new ideas or applications of technology and others’ ideas to help further the development of the human race.

  2. How do you see innovation being relevant to you and your future career path? I would like to study astrophysics, which is a field that is constantly developing new technology to see further and further into space, and to discuss exploring space and finding new things outside of our world.

Week 2: SDG 14 Questions

  1. What did you learn about SDG14 Life under water? It is a very big issue here, in the Potomac River and the Chesapeake Bay. I didn’t realize how serious it was before.

  2. What did you learn about making a prototype in a short amount of time? (Innovating) It was hard to come up with something that might actually work or make a difference in this issue.

Week 3: Using Technology

  1. What do you like about using little bits?  In what way do little bits help you make your thinking visible? We did not use Little Bits in our prototype because we built a simple model of an adaptation of an already existing technology (UV ray water purification). Little bits only work for very simple motors and circuits.

  2. Draft a plan for how you will prepare your tutorial.  What steps will you discuss and what are some things you need to consider when teaching people something? I would have a chart describing a UV water purification device and explain how that unit generates the radiation appropriate to clean the water. This would be a theoretical tutorial of a technology present in industry, not in schools.

Week 1 Questions

  1. What does Innovation mean to you?

    1. Innovation means improving the lives of individuals efficiently and in areas that actually need to be improved.

  2. How do you see innovation being relevant to you and your future career path?

    1. I plan to be an engineer where innovation is everywhere in designing new tech.  I want to help make and improve commercial space flight and deep space exploration where rocket quality and efficiency is very important.

Week 2: SDG 14 Questions

  1. What did you learn about SDG14 Life under water?

    1. There is a lot of trouble in our nation’s waters and not enough attention for the issue.

  2. What did you learn about making a protoype in a short amount of time? (Innovating)

    1. We were able to solve a part of the problem in little time.  With a lot of time, we can handle the whole problem and prevent it from happening again.

Week 3: Using Technology

  1. What do you like about using little bits?  In what way do little bits help you make your thinking visible?

    1. I think it’s cool to connect different circuits together and watch them work when constructing little gadgets you can think of in your head.

  2. Draft a plan for how you will prepare your tutorial.  What steps will you discuss and what are some things you need to consider when teaching people something?

    1. How to introduce the topic and curriculum and how to enforce it in the environment that you are teaching in.

Week 1 Questions

  1. What does Innovation mean to you? Being able to improve technology or any inventions. Make ideas to innovate the world.

  1. How do you see innovation being relevant to you and your future career path? That technology will enhance and will be ahead of its time in the future.

Week 2: SDG 14 Questions

  1. What did you learn about SDG14 Life under water? That you can come up with ideas to keep the water life safe and clean.

  1. What did you learn about making a protoype in a short amount of time? (Innovating) That in the future technology will be advanced and could be easily made.

Week 3: Using Technology

  1. What do you like about using little bits?  In what way do little bits help you make your thinking visible? That you can connect them in different ways and they will work. We had an alarm/alert to let people know our device was being used.

  1. Draft a plan for how you will prepare your tutorial.  What steps will you discuss and what are some things you need to consider when teaching people something? That our devices helps the ocean when a storm is going on, we move water to storm drains and have trash be collect from our device

Week 1 Questions

  1. What does Innovation mean to you?

    1. Innovation means means enacting creative solutions to the world’s problems.

  2. How do you see innovation being relevant to you and your future career path?

    1. Innovation will be relevant to me and my future career path because I can work on developing AI that can be used on robots to help the elderly or something like that.

Week 2: SDG 14 Questions

  1. What did you learn about SDG14 Life under water?

    1. I learned that oysters eat pollution and can cleanup the Chesapeake Bay.

  2. What did you learn about making a protoype in a short amount of time? (Innovating)

    1. It is easy to come up with a general idea, but the details and techanlities will take some more time to iron out.

Week 3: Using Technology

  1. What do you like about using little bits?  In what way do little bits help you make your thinking visible?

    1. They’re easy to use and they help visualize a plan by allowing you to create the picture you had in your head.

  2. Draft a plan for how you will prepare your tutorial.  What steps will you discuss and what are some things you need to consider when teaching people something?

    1. I will consider what I would want to have explained to me had I not already known what is going to be taught.
